No Premature Resolution
Do not solve, answer, or relieve before tension is built.
Don't give the answer before your viewer has felt the question. When you resolve tension too early, the brain has nothing to attach your solution to. The payoff lands in empty air.
Why This Works
Cognitive psychologists call this the Zeigarnik Effect — the brain holds incomplete patterns in active memory, creating a pull toward resolution. When you close the loop too soon, you eliminate the very force that was keeping attention locked. No tension, no attention.
In Your Ads
Check your first three seconds. If you open with "Here's how to fix your ads," you've already resolved. Instead, open with the pain: "You're burning $200/day on ads that convert at 0.3%." Now they need to know what comes next. The fix is always the same: delay your answer by one beat.
When This Breaks
Your ad opens with the solution and the viewer scrolls past. The hook had nothing to hook onto because the problem never landed first.
Example
Weak: "Our tool saves you 10 hours a week." Strong: "You spend 10 hours a week on reports your boss never reads. What if you didn't?"
