Closers & Calls to Action
Try This Today
Leverages implementation intentions. A specific, small action tied to "today" is far more likely to be completed.
A "try this today" close gives the viewer a specific, small action tied to an immediate time frame. The combination of specificity and immediacy dramatically increases follow-through. "Today" creates a deadline. "This specific thing" removes ambiguity. Together, they transform a vague intention into an implementation plan.
Why This Works
Implementation intentions — specific plans about when, where, and how to act — increase follow-through by 2-3x compared to general intentions. "I'll try that sometime" rarely converts to action. "I'll paste my competitor's URL into the scanner when I get to my desk at 9 AM" almost always does. Specificity plus immediacy equals action.
In Your Ads
Use try-this-today when you can give a genuinely useful micro-action. "Before you close this app, paste one competitor's ad URL into the free scanner. Just one. See what you find." The action should be small enough to do immediately and valuable enough to be worth doing.
When This Breaks
When the action is too big for "today" or the viewer can't do it right now, the time frame creates pressure without a release valve.
Example
"Here's what you do today: find your competitor's best-performing ad, paste the URL, and read the decode. You'll know more about their creative strategy than their own team does."
When To Use It
Use Try This Today when you need to convert attention into action. This technique drives the viewer toward a specific next step. Everything before this moment was building toward this one ask.
