An "actually" reframe corrects one assumption and triggers a cascade of re-evaluation across everything built on top of it. When a foundational belief shifts, everything downstream has to be reassessed. One correction can destabilize an entire belief system — creating a window where the viewer is ready to rebuild from a new foundation.
Why This Works
Beliefs are structured hierarchically. A foundational assumption supports many derivative beliefs. When you correct the foundation, the derivative beliefs become unstable simultaneously. This cascade creates a uniquely receptive state: the viewer isn't just updating one belief — they're rebuilding their entire model. And they need a new framework to rebuild from.
In Your Ads
Use actually reframes when you can identify the foundational assumption your audience builds on. "You think the hook determines whether someone watches your ad. Actually, the hook determines whether someone STARTS watching. What determines if they FINISH is something else entirely." One correction, cascade of implications.
When This Breaks
When the reframe is trivial or doesn't actually change the downstream conclusions, the cascade doesn't happen.
Example
"You've been optimizing for click-through rate. Actually, the ads with the highest CTR often have the worst conversion rate. You've been optimizing the wrong number."
